The Cochon 555 ATL event was yesterday, and what a great success it was! So many people came out to experience the taste of Heritage Breed Pigs.

I wrote the field guide for the national tour, and I’ve fallen in love with the cause of supporting organically raised meat, dairy and produce. In the guide, we profiled 10 top heritage breeds. You can help support the cause by asking for breeds at your local grocer, restaurant and butcher. Here’s a brief rundown:

Ten pigs to know (and what they’re known for):
1. Gloucestershire Old Spot – succulent flavor; 2. Mangalitsa – high-quality fat, juicy meat 3. Tamworth – bacon; 4. Red Wattle – beefy texture; 5. Berkshire – sweet and creamy fat; 6. Mulefoot – premium hams; 7. Guinea Hog – hams, bacon, lard; 8 Ossabaw Island – high marbling; 9 Large Black – moist meat with old world flavor; 10 Hereford – rich, marbled meat.

So long Alex Chilton, singer and guitarist of The Box Tops and Big Star passed away yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 59. Big Star was due to perform at SXSW on Saturday.

UT To Display DFW’s Work

Earlier this week, The University of Texas at Austin, announced that they had acquired DFW’s archives.

The collection includes handwritten notes, and early drafts of his work.

The Wallace archive will be available to the public later in 2010. For now, several items can be viewed online, and a selection is currently on display in the lobby of The Harry Ransom Center, UT’s humanities research library and museum, through April 9. Below, the first page of the handwritten draft of INFINITE JEST.
