The Art of Using Fewer Words

New Logo

My friend, Tommy designed a new logo for my company, Messaging Strategies, and I’m so thankful. He’s an uber-talented designer with endless energy. We’ve been friends since our interactive agency days, and while he now lives in the hills of N. Cali, I am so happy that we are still tight. While I miss the old days, meeting on Sunday afternoons to discuss all things culture-based, literature, music, film, art, inspiration, and the latest Apple technology over pint-sized beers and the occasional nacho platter, I am happy for him and his new life. Thankfully, he continues to share his breakthrough ideas with his ATL buddies through his blog and FB posts.

Hopefully, we all have friends like Tommy, as they are few and far between.

Thank you, my friend.

New Flash Prose

Being a freelancer gives me the opportunity to work a wide variety of gigs. While 99.9 percent of them are writing related, once in a while, I’ll take on a project that requires a different skill set. One such project was a three-week gig for a 24-hour jewelry television show. I filled in for the producer who was on her honeymoon. It was a great experience, and I met many great people, but working night shifts for three weeks did take its toll on my psyche…but it made good fodder for a short piece.

Karma and Dharma

It’s funny how often I think if Karma these days. It’s not a new notion for me, but it is one that repeats itself more frequently than others. How well do you live your life? By “well” I mean, how much “good” do you bring to the table? And by “good”, I mean how much light do you send through your spirit? I’m not talking about walking the walk, or even talking the talk for that matter. Volunteering man-hours mean nothing when you’re righteous and self-serving. That’s hypocrisy, and to this day, I’m amazed at the transparency of it. So getting back to Karma…we receive what we put forth. Lifting someone’s spirit when times are tough seems to be what’s needed now, instead of empty external acts of shallowness. Really. It’s becoming more obvious.

New Flash Prose

About 10 years ago, I saw a talented music group called Jump Little Children, and was inspired by their energy and spirit. To help fund their tours and craft, often they busked in the streets of their hometown, of Charleston. As a result, a story developed.
